At Oxley Park Academy we take pride in motivating our children to become the best mathematicians they can be.
Through our engaging and wide ranging curriculum we inspire children to take on new mathematical concepts with courage and confidence.
As a school we follow the White Rose maths program which aims to provide children with multiple strategies to solve problems and allow them to access maths mastery.
At Oxley Park Academy we encourage our children to follow the CPA approach. Concrete, pictorial and abstract.
Concrete enables learners to use resources to solve problems. Pictorial encourages learners to draw their mathematical ideas. Finally through the abstract stage, children use mathematical symbols to model problems.
Maths at OPA
Mymaths.co.uk – For children to access additional home learning.
TTrockstars.com – A webpage which allows children to practise their multiplication tables.
Topmarks.co.uk – An area where children can play educational games linked to their learning.
At Oxley Park Academy we focus our mathematical teaching on four key areas.
Arithmetic– This forms the main component of our early maths as it is a vital cog in the mathematical journey and allows children to access further skills in the curriculum.
Fluency- Children build their skills, practising these routinely and testing them out in simple mathematical concepts.
Reasoning– This allows the children to explore problems in different contexts. They are expected to solve problems recorded in different ways.
Problem Solving– Finally the children are encouraged to find their own starting point to solve a problem of which there could be many solutions.
These areas allow children to really move towards becoming Masters in Maths!
