Lessons:

Last week the children completed a mock SATs in Maths, Reading and SPAG. We are SO proud how they approached them with a mature attitude and understanding. They should be very proud of themselves.

This week we will be completing our Literacy unit on newspaper reports with the hot task and end of unit review.

In Maths we will be looking at long division using chunking and the formal written method.

In topic we will be completing our science unit on light.

We will also be making cakes and cupcakes as part of their enterprise and selling them at the school Christmas fayre.

Spellings:

As part of their morning work and lessons, the children will be revising words they find tricky from the Year 5 and 6 spelling list. We will send some lists home to practice over the half term.

Homework:

  • Children need to complete their multiplication grids and then focus on recalling a focus target in and out of order
  • Reading needs to be 5x a week and for a minimum of 15 minutes

Next half term we will be having a lunchtime homework club offered by all Year 6 teachers once a week to help support your child if they are struggling to complete the tasks at home.

Movement across Oxley and Shenley

During the school year we will be doing lots together over the two campuses. As we are 1 school over 2 campuses, our pupils will access facilities at both sites to enjoy the excellent, but differing provision and facilities. This will normally be done through escorted walks. If we are using the school minibuses we will ask you to sign a consent agreement. With escorted walks to support our curriculum, we will, as always for local walks, notify you on our Year page that we are going out in order that you can ensure children have appropriate clothing.

Home learning ideas:

To complete during Autumn term two - please do at least one

  • Who was Glenn Miller and Vera Lynn? – create a poster explaining who they are and why they were important.

  • Artist study – Who was LS Lowry? – can you re-create an image from WW2 using his artistic style?

  • Write a set of instructions on what to do during an air raid. Think of about your use of imperative verbs!
  • Fact file about women at work during the war effort. What was the difference before and during the war? What did women do during the war?
  • Code breakers - Who was Alan Turing? What was the enigma?
