Design and Technology
Mrs Mellor our D & T Lead, welcomes you... |
Welcome to the OPA D&T Page. Here you will find information about D&T at OPA including our subject pathway; detailing the content taught in each year group and the progression of design and technology throughout a child’s time at OPA. Design and Technology is taught as part of our Doorways and Pathways curriculum. We follow the National Curriculum programme of study and our D&T learning will focus on 3 key areas: Designing, making, evaluating and improving; mastering techniques and taking inspiration from designs throughout history. The practical skills will cover using a wide range of media including food (cooking), materials, textiles, electrical and electronics, computing, construction, and mechanics.
What is Design and Technology? |
Design and Technology is the design and creation of a range of products.
In school, we have 3 key concepts in D&T. As designers we learn to:
· Master practical skills - by developing the skills needed to make high-quality products
· Design, make, evaluate and improve – by understanding that design is a process
· Take Inspiration from design throughout history — by appreciating how the design process has influenced things we use in everyday life.
At Oxley Park Academy we aim to build a Design and Technology curriculum which is inspiring, rigorous, and practical. We want our children to use creativity and imagination, to design and make innovative products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim for all children to acquire appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum and Milestones. It is our aim to create strong cross curricular links with other subjects, such as Doorways and Pathways, Mathematics, Science, Computing, and Art. We want Design and Technology to prepare our children for the rapidly changing world and advances in technological developments. We also aim to give them the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences they need to be successful in later life.
