Our Curriculum Overview and Introduction

Mrs Frayne-Johnson, our Curriculum Lead, welcomes you...

A warm welcome to the curriculum page. Here you can find all the important information relating to the curriculum and how it works here at Oxley Park.

Our intention for the curriculum is to offer our children different opportunities throughout the different stages of their learning journey with us. These opportunities should allow them to Dream, Believe and Achieve as set out in our Academy Vision.

Our Curriculum Overview - Our Intent, Implementation and Impact

Doorways and Pathways

Doorways and Pathways (D&P) combine the teaching and learning of history, geography, art and DT. Each term the whole school from Nursery to Year 6 enter the same Doorway (the theme for that term). Within each doorway there are many different pathways and these will all be very different for each year group. As children progress through Oxley Park they will experience a wide range of history pathways, geography pathways, technology pathways and citizenship pathways; all of which compliment their Learning of English, Maths, Science, Computing, P.E, Music, R.E and PSHE.

English, Maths and Science are regularly brought to life through these doorways, as each theme lends itself well to exciting and creative learning opportunities in these subjects. At Oxley Park, if you enter into a D&P lesson, you are likely to see children taking on the role of detectives, historians, investigators, professors and many more!

Each term opens with a new and exciting ‘doorway into learning’ providing the children with a ‘Dazzling Debut’. This is our opportunity to ‘unlock the learning’ for our children. This is launched in a variety of ways, providing our children with an interesting, and sometimes unexpected, opening to their pathway! Each year group area will be transformed to match each and every pathway, where the theme will scream at you from every wall (and sometimes, the ceiling too!). The children are encouraged to be independent learners at times too, and we encourage them to explore the topic for themselves at different periods.

Our ‘Fabulous Finales’ are wonderful events where the adults responsible for our children are invited into school to share the learning journey with their loved ones at the end of each Doorway. Children and adults are thrown into invigorating activities that show off the learning that has taken place.

  • The children are oozing with so much more ‘zest’ since the start of this year, which makes us as parents happier and excited about their future at OPA.
  • My children love the school! My eldest was quiet, didn’t want to learn, didn’t enjoy school. Now he is settled, has friends and has started to show improvements. My daughter loves her teachers and is extremely enthusiastic.
