PE

Mrs Lyttle, Mr Pink, Mr Thurston and Mr Boniface, our PE team, welcome you...

Welcome to the Oxley Park Academy PE page. Here you will find information about PE at OPA including our subject pathway, detailing the content taught in each year group and the progression of PE throughout a child’s time at OPA.  PE is taught once a week for 2 hours. We follow the national curriculum programme of study and build upon key areas of gymnastics, games, athletics, dance and outdoor adventurous activities.

What is PE?

PE is the development and skills and knowledge to enable children to participate in a range of activities and lead a healthy lifestyle

Our PE curriculum is split into 6 areas:

  • Games
  • Dance
  • Gymnastics
  • Athletics
  • Outdoor and adventurous activities
  • Health-related fitness

In school, we have two key concepts in PE.  As athletes we learn to:

  • Develop practical skills in order to participate, compete and lead a healthy lifestyle - by learning physical movements and sporting techniques.
  • Develop a love of physical activity— by experiencing a range of physical experiences both individually and as part of a team, and understanding the benefits, physically and mentally, of physical exercise.

Our vision

Each year the children become more skilled in these key areas, building upon their prior skills, knowledge, and confidence through a sequenced curriculum. Our intention is that when they leave in Year 6, pupils have developed practical skills in a range of activities in order to participate, compete and lead a healthy lifestyle. We also want children to develop a love of physical activity by experiencing a range of physical experiences and this will contribute to physical and mental wellbeing.  Through PE, we promote our academies 6C values: cooperation, caring, courage, curious, conscientious, curious.

2021-2022 Schools Games Mark – Gold award

This last academic year Oxley Park won the Gold award in the school’s games mark. We worked really hard this year to ensure we could win this exciting award! At Oxley Park we strive to ensure we have a range of different abilities participating in school games therefore, we scored highly in the participation topic. We entered and played at lots of different sporting competitions, allowing our children the opportunity to explore different sports. Finally, at Oxley, we have made lots of links with clubs in the area. All this together ensured we won the gold award. We look forward to working hard this next academic year to win further awards.
