PE
Mr Bolton, Mr Froud, Mr Thurston, Mr Pink and Mr Rutherford, our PE team, welcome you... |
Welcome to the Oxley Park Academy PE page. Here you will find information about PE at OPA including our subject pathway, detailing the content taught in each year group and the progression of PE throughout a child’s time at OPA. PE is taught once a week for 2 hours. We follow the national curriculum programme of study and build upon key areas of gymnastics, games, athletics, dance and outdoor adventurous activities.
What is PE? |
PE is the development and skills and knowledge to enable children to participate in a range of activities and lead a healthy lifestyle
Our PE curriculum is split into 6 areas:
- Games
- Dance
- Gymnastics
- Athletics
- Outdoor and adventurous activities
- Health-related fitness
In school we have two key concepts in PE. As athletes we learn to:
- Develop practical skills in order to participate, compete and lead a healthy lifestyle - by learning physical movements and sporting techniques.
- Develop a love of physical activity— by experiencing a range of physical experiences both individually and as part of a team, and understanding the benefits, physically and mentally, of physical exercise.
Each year the children become more skilled in these key areas, building upon their prior skills and knowledge. Our intention is that when they leave in Year 6 they have developed practical skills in a range of activities in order to participate, compete and lead a healthy lifestyle. We also want children to develop a love of physical activity by experiencing a range of physical experiences.
